UNDER VEHICLE BLAST SIMULATION
To provide a tool to evaluate IED blast mitigation concepts developed by ESI a computational exercise was undertaken using smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) computational techniques.
So as to be directly related to the client’s interest the IED mitigation concepts were applied to military vehicles, and as such the simulation performed incorporated the TARDEC generic hull vehicle model.

Simulations output when used with additional statistical information was used to provide insight into the type and extent of injury possible due to typical blasts occurring directly below the vehicle.

This simulation also enabled the blast loading on an occupant seated within the TARDEC generic hull vehicle to be approximately determined.
