FLUID STRUCTURE

AT SUPERSONIC SPEEDS

Normalized sound pressure levels acquired on the floor of a rectangular cavity immersed in a Mach 2 flow, highlight the dependence of the cavity orientation with respect to the approaching flow.

Applying sheer stress sensitive liquid crystals to the cavity floor and surrounding surface, reveals regions of flow separation and vortical activity.
