LABORATORY
SHOCK TUBE
This low cost shock tube has a square cross section (2.5 inches x 2.5 inches) and can be used in either open or close ended modes. It has been primarily used for instrumentation response evaluations to transient loads and shock wave dynamics.

Separate driven sections allow for the ability to fill one section with different fluid, such as water to enable water immersion transducer response.
This shock tube apparatus is made up of three major elements;
-
2 feet long 140 psia driver section,
-
multiple layer burst diaphragm,
-
12 feet driven section is composed of two 6 feet sections.

A typical response from a high speed transducer in water and subjected to a transient shock wave.
