FULL SCALE AIR
DUCT DESIGN
To provide the necessary flow conditions for live fire testing a complex high speed air duct was designed using standard fluid flow analysis, than to account for the flow unsteadiness and non-uniform nature of the air supply CFD algorithm's were applied.
To provide proper airflow to an aircraft under live fire test air is provided by several stationary jet engines, collected and delivered to the vehicle under test.
Simulations were performed using the three dimensional unsteady equations of motion found in the OpenFoam® CFD Toolbox.

The unsteady velocity distribution was computed on the horizontal centerline.
This complex duct was fabricated and used in a recent aircraft live fire testing program.
