This is a high-speed, low-turbulence subsonic flow system configured as a backward facing step and operated in the suction mode. The maximum speed is M# 0.6 or 460 MPH.
The test rig inlet is 30” long and 4” x 7” in cross section, with excellent optical access.
Non-dimensional velocity profiles are presented to demonstrate the flow uniformity and development of the free shear layer.
Using different arrangements of surface roughness & clutter elements the surface layer turbulence is artificially adjusted, producing a thick turbulent boundary layer.
